“Beware, O wanderer, the road is walking too” (Jim Harrison)

10¹⁷ (CA/NO) is the brand new project of BRDCST curator Colin Stetson, Stian Westerhus and Erland Dahlen. The band name refers to the theoretical quantity of energy you need to create a black hole.
Norwegian guitarist Stian Westerhus is best known for his collaborations with Jaga Jazzist, Nils Petter Molvær Trio and Ulver (which initially began as a black metal band). Drummer/percussionist Erland Dahlen is – aside from (previously being a) member of somewhat traditional bands like Hanne Hukkelberg and Madrugada – mainly active at the boundary between electronica, jazz and experimental.
Stian Westerhus: “This sort of collaboration is the essence of musical creation. It’s like a knife’s edge all the time. It really demands full attention, and full focus. For music’s own sake.”
Colin Stetson: “One of my favorite quotes is: ‘Beware, O wanderer, the road is walking too’ by Jim Harrison. It’s not a static landscape that you’re interacting in. You have to innovate constantly. Which is what 10¹⁷ is all about.”
