Through her alter-ego El Kontessa (EG) the Cairo-based producer, DJ and multidisciplinary artist Fajr Soliman channels her home city’s energetic sounds. Her DJ sets combine modern electronic musical textures and ‘bass music’ with Maghranat (‘a combination of working class popular Egyptian music (shaabi) played at weddings, EDM and hip hop, with heavy autotune use’).

Her debut album Nos Habet Caramel / نص ح​ب​ة ك​ر​ا​م​ي​ل , released in 2023 on the Palestinian label Bilna’es, represents a perfect balance between tradition and renewal.
