Kabas
Kabas celebrate their tenth anniversary with the brand-new album Sun Dog, bathed in transcendental minimalist improv
Kabas (BE) formed 10 years ago as the result of a shared interest in the potential of conceptual compositional formats and free-form improvisation. With their 2016 debut Abel, the band swiftly made their mark on the Belgian music scene. The successive albums Negen/Live at SMUP (2018) and Eugénie (2020) further consolidated their place in this landscape. Their collaborations with Nordmann, Elisabeth Klinck and Uma Chine demonstrate their versatility.
They will introduce their latest creation Sun Dog at BRDCST. The three-part album is a minimalistic, repetitive suite. The quartet maintain their attention to detail and preference for basic ingredients while exploring new territory, expanding their instrumentation and doing away with acoustic exclusivity. It’s a logical step: Devoldere has successfully delved into modern pop music while Troch and Vermeulen have experimented with new instruments (banjo, guitar, electronics).
Thijs Troch - piano
Jan Daelman - flute
Elias Devoldere - drums/percussion
Nils Vermeulen – double bass
