Met haar alter ego El Kontessa (EG) kanaliseert de in Cairo residerende producer, dj en multidisciplinaire kunstenaar Fajr Soliman de bruisende klanken van haar thuisstad. In haar dj-sets combineert ze moderne elektronische texturen en bass music met Mahraganat (‘a combination of working class popular Egyptian music (shaabi) played at weddings, EDM and hip hop, with heavy autotune use’).

Haar debuut Nos Habet Caramel / نص ح​ب​ة ك​ر​ا​م​ي​ل werd in 2023 uitgebracht op het Palestijnse label Bilna’es, waarbij ze quasi perfect balanceert tussen traditie en vernieuwing. The Quietus: “It’s the work of a zealous producer moulding the currently popular darbuka-infused polyrhythms and energetic Mahraganat samples into a personal vision."
