Áine O’Dwyer
Irish experimental artist plays the classical organ at the Rijke Klaren church
The work of London-based Irish experimental artist Áine O’Dwyer (IE) explores the broader aesthetic of sound and how it’s connected to its surroundings (time, the audience and infrastructure). Her music is inspired by her study of the individual properties of pipe organs and the fact that each organ is carefully adapted to the building that houses it, giving it an intimate connection to the surrounding architecture.
On her debut album Music for Church Cleaners (2012) she incorporated improvisations on the church organ in combination with the sound of the cleaning crew’s vacuum cleaners in St Mark's Church in Islington, London. Her set on the organ of Eupen’s Friedenskirche during Meakusma 2024 was a thing of remarkable beauty. We look forward to seeing how she handles the organ at the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw ter Rijke Klaren church.
