Body Meat
“Bludgeoning rage beats, glitchy sound design, and sideways R&B melodies take on corporal presence in producer and vocalist Chris Taylor’s brilliantly discombobulating debut” (Pitchfork)
Inspired by the extensive storytelling of games and anime, Chistopher Taylor, along with Body Meat (US) builds a multidimensional world in constant flux filled with fascinating characters. Each track comes with a unique delirium-inducing mix of R&B, IDM, trap, footwork, experimental pop and even metal. Sounds chaotic, right? Not according to Pitchfork: “Taylor’s most impressive feat might just be how naturally he melds all these bizarre fragments, taking concepts that could seem insular and building welcoming pathways toward them”.
His debut album Starchris had the rare honour of being named ‘Best New Music’ by Pitchfork. “Rage beats tumble into hyperspeed rave-ups; post-SOPHIE sound design squiggles alongside mangled Afrobeats and teeth-gnashing nu-metal. It’s the kind of genre-splitting that’s become a hallmark of hyperpop, but Starchris never comes off like a gimmicky mashup”.
